Police and informal residents clashed in Marlboro, Johannesburg, during evictions on Wednesday morning, Johannesburg metro police said.

“Metro police were in the process of removing shack dwellers along municipal owned land on Fifth avenue. They were attacked and shot at,” said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

“It was live ammunition that was used and a metro police car was torched.”

He said the police had brought the situation under control and that all was quiet by 8am. - Sapa
