Johanensburg - The crowd was chastised at the National Police Day celebrations at Johannesburg Stadium on Wednesday when people failed to stand up during the reading of the police code of conduct.
After the formalities began with a scripture reading, there was a parade by the police brass band and officers on motorbikes.
A wreath was laid, a flame was lit, and a moment of silence was observed for officers killed in the line of duty last year.
The crowd cheered as police parachutists landed amid coloured smoke.
The mood in the stadium was relaxed as proceedings moved towards noon, when Gauteng community safety MEC Faith Mazibuko was expected to address the crowd.
