Polokwane – One person has been killed in Seshego Zone Five on the Matlala Road outside Polokwane in Limpopo, paramedics said on Sunday.

"The incident happened after a government ambulance was involved in an accident," Honnetsweng EMS said in a statement on the Arrive Alive website.

"According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was hit by another vehicle after returning to assist the ambulance crews who were injured.

"Honnetsweng EMS and other services arrived on scene to be met by angry community that was assaulting the driver whose vehicle allegedly hit a bystander. The situation turned worse when the community started assaulting the police and paramedics who were trying to help."

Police backup was called to the scene to calm the situation. All the injured were were taken to hospital for further medical care.

Police were investigating, Honnetsweng EMS said.
