Johannesburg - Police reservists will picket at the offices of the Gauteng police chief in Johannesburg on Wednesday, the African People's Convention (APC) said on Tuesday.
“This is aimed at highlighting their plight about the frustrating treatment they receive from the police bigwigs,” APC deputy president Hlabirwa Mathume said in a statement.
Mathume claimed reservists were being abused and maltreated by permanent members of the police.
Reservists had no medical cover or insurance for working in dangerous conditions, and corruption and nepotism resulted in them being excluded from permanent positions, he said.
“An exclusivist criterion is always used whenever there are vacant posts that always makes it difficult for them to qualify.”
The picket would take place in Parktown, Johannesburg. - Sapa
