Cape Town - The South African Police Service has warned job seekers against fake online advertisements for police recruits, saying these “form part of a scam aimed at misleading the public, and should be ignored”.

The adverts - which include the official police logo, appear on numerous free classifieds websites.

When Weekend Argus called the telephone numbers under the advertisements yesterday, there was no response.

Police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said in a statement the police did not post jobs adverts on free online classified sites. They used newspapers and their own website - www.saps.gov.za - for advertising. “Only the information that is on this website can be regarded as authentic.”
