Durban - The N2 rock throwers are back and this time a policewoman is lucky to be alive after she says her car was struck by a soccer ball-sized rock on Thursday.

Susan Louw, a police detective at the Pinetown Police Station, said her car was hit at about 5am while driving home to Warner Beach.

According to the South Coast Sun, the rock was hurled at her Hyundai i20 from the Hull Road bridge on the south-bound lane of the N2.

Louw said she had been driving in the right lane when she heard the bang, causing her to swerve to the left lane.

“It was still so dark so I didn't see anything, I just heard a loud bang and then my chest collided with the steering wheel, but I managed to control the car and carry on.

“I am a trained police officer so I know never to stop in situations like this but, even for us police officers, this is traumatising. “If that rock had struck my window maybe 4cm higher, it would have hit my face and then they would have mugged me,” she said.

Louw continued for about 20km until she got home safely.

She said it was too dark to see any of the suspects.

Provincial police said they could not find a record of the incident but Louw said she opened a case with the Montclair SAPS.
