Komatopoort - Criminal trials came to a standstill in an Mpumalanga court on Wednesday because of electricity problems.

Tonga magistrate Helen Khoza had to turn away witnesses as she was forced to postpone all trials that were scheduled to be heard in her court, a Sapa correspondent reported.

“As I have already indicated; there will be no trials or bail application cases today here in court because of the electricity problem,” said Magistrate Khoza.

Khoza postponed the trial of four men accused of raping a 24-year-old woman at a tavern and one case of a mother who assaulted two girls who were manhandling her child.

She postponed the matter to April 2 for the four accused to apply for bail while she postponed another matter to April 9 for the trial to continue.
