Pretoria - A Villeria police detective and another suspect were on Thursday arrested by metro police after being found in possession of drugs, including bags of heroin and a bucket of dagga.

The two suspects were pounced on by metro police in East Lynne.

The estimated street value of the dagga found in their possession is R8 720 and the heroin R5 250.

Metro police spokesman, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, said a metro cop was walking towards the “infamous drug hotspot in East Lynne”, at the intersection of Baviaanspoort Road and Stormvoel Road, when he noticed a parked car. He approached the unmarked car, which was later found to belong to the detective.

He saw a suspect in the front passenger seat packing dagga into small plastic bags.

He apprehended the two men in the vehicle, and one of them identified himself as detective.

“He didn't want to show his appointment card,” Mahamba said.

The metro cop then called for backup.

When the backup team arrived they searched the vehicle thoroughly and found 150 bags of heroin and a big bucket of dagga.

Both men were arrested and charged with possession and dealing in drugs.
