Johannesburg - A rape case involving a 47-year-old prophet and his wife was postponed by the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Gauteng police said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the couple would appear again on March 7. They would remain in custody.

The couple was arrested on Tuesday in connection with rape of a woman in Zondi, Soweto.

At the time, Makhubela said the woman told the police she consulted the prophet, who told her that she had to have sex with him if she was to be healed.

“The woman refused, but the prophet promised to give her muti to help her. He allegedly smeared her with a white powder that made her dizzy.”

Makhubela said the prophet called his wife, 48, and ordered her to take the woman to a room and undress her.

He then allegedly raped the woman in the presence of his wife.

Makhubela said the prophet's wife would face a charge of helping her husband to commit the crime. - Sapa
