Johannesburg - Commuters attacked and damaged 20 Putco buses on Friday morning in Mamelodi, Silverton police said.

“Information we received was that commuters have been engaging with Putco on the rise of bus fares,” Captain Jan Sepato said.

“Apparently these people were venting their anger on buses that were taking commuters to work. About 20 of the Putco buses were seriously damaged.”

Sepato said no arrests were made and no injuries reported.

“Police officers are in the area monitoring the situation.”

He said investigations continued.

Putco was not immediately available for comment. - Sapa
