Cape Town - A Grade 12 pupil at Wellington Secondary School was stabbed to death with a pair of scissors in front of his classmates and teachers as they were leaving school on Thursday.

The murder happened outside the school gates, shortly after school had been adjourned for the day. The victim was 17-year-old Jerome Manuel.

A 15-year-old boy, who apparently is not a pupil at the school, was arrested soon after the attack.

Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said Jerome died in an ambulance en route to Paarl Hospital. He had sustained a single stab wound in the neck.

“The suspect is a 15-year-old boy, who was waiting for his nephew when an argument started with the deceased. The-15-year old suspect was arrested and is due to appear in court (Friday).”

Bronagh Casey, spokeswoman for Education MEC Donald Grant, said staff members and pupils had witnessed the incident and a department psychologist had provided counselling support at the school.
