Cape Town - A teacher and pupil were shot and injured at a Cape Town school on Thursday morning, a Western Cape health department official said.

A teacher was shot in the arm and a pupil in the leg and chest, the department's emergency medical services spokesman Robert Daniels said.

The shooting took place at the Oval North Secondary School in Beacon Valley around 8am.

Both were taken to hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

According to Western Cape police spokesman Lt-Col Tembinkosi Kinana, two boys, aged 19 and 20, were shot outside the school.

“The motive and the circumstances are being investigated and a case of attempted murder was opened for investigation purposes,” he said.

No arrests had been made.
