Cape Town - Abalone worth an estimated R1 million has been seized from a home in Philippi, Cape Town but no arrests had been made, reported police on Wednesday.

“Police confiscated 8 300 units of abalone with (an) estimated street value of about one million rand. No one has been arrested at this stage,” said Western Cape police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana.

On Tuesday afternoon, police officers responded to a community tip-off about a house in 6th Avenue. “Upon searching the house unshelled [unshucked] abalone was found,” said Rwexana.

Police did not make any arrests for the seized abalone, she said.
