Drugs with a street value of over R900 000 were seized in Cape Town on Thursday, Western Cape police said.

Four men, aged between 32 and 37, were arrested at a liquor store in Maitland, together with two women, aged 20 and 25, Warrant Officer November Filander said.

The four men were Nigerian while one of the women was a Zimbabwean.

“Ten bunches of tik worth over R300 000 was found under the cash counter along with cash totalling around R1 million.”

Meanwhile the Hawks and Crime Intelligence arrested three more men, aged between 41 and 54, in New Market Street in Cape Town on Thursday for possession of drugs worth more than R600 000.

“Police searched their vehicle and found 12 000 Mandrax tablets as well as a huge amount of cash in the men's possession.”

All the arrested would appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court soon. - Sapa
