Cape Town – A City of Cape Town law enforcement officer has been shot dead while on duty, the city said on Saturday.

The city was shocked and saddened by the murder of one of its law enforcement officers, it said in a statement.

Officer Julian Davidson, 30, was shot dead in Lower Crossroads just after 9pm on Friday night. He was attacked by a group of men while sitting in a marked law enforcement vehicle, waiting for a colleague.

It was understood the perpetrators fired a number of shots at Davidson through the side window of the vehicle.

“The city conveys its deepest condolences to the family of officer Davidson. We will assist them in any way possible through this very difficult time. The Hawks are investigating the incident and we call on members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in bringing those responsible to book.”

The city manager had also authorised a R50 000 reward for information in this regard, the statement said.
