Buskbuckridge - Charges against an Mpumalanga man accused of raping and impregnating his daughter more than 15 years ago were provisionally dropped on Monday.

Police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the matter was withdrawn in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate's Court pending the outcome of a DNA test of the child.

The purpose of the test was to ascertain whether the man was the father.

The Sowetan reported that the case was brought to the attention of the police recently by the girl's mother.

The girl, now 32, was allegedly raped between 1997 and 1999 while she stayed with her grandmother.

“It is alleged the suspect went into (his) daughter's room at night while she was sleeping, covered her mouth, (and) forcefully undressed and raped her,” said Mohlala.

The alleged rapes continued until she fell pregnant and gave birth to a child in 2000.

Her mother found out about it during a recent argument between the 55-year-old man and his daughter.

The man was arrested on Thursday at his home in Embalenhle.
