Potchefstroom - Twin brothers and an 18-year-old accomplice have been sentenced to a combined 55 years in prison for the rape of a woman in North West.

Police spokesperson Major Pelonomi Makau said 26-year-old twin brothers, Thabang Godfrey Montsho and Kgangetsile Sydney Montsho, were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment each.

Their 18-year-old accomplice, Buti Aaron Mareko, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Itsoseng Regional Court on 1 December for rape.

Makau said: “On the night of the 25 September 2010, a 27-year-old victim from Bodibe village and her four male friends were on their way back home after attending a church service. They were approached by the three convicts, who threatened them with knives, before taking the victim forcefully to a deserted and vandalised house in the area, where they took turns in raping her for the whole night.

“The convicts left the victim stranded in the old house and she managed to go home and the police were informed.”

Mareko was arrested the same day and the twin brothers were arrested weeks later.
