Two women were raped in separate incidents in Potchefstroom and Mooifontein at the weekend, North West police said on Wednesday.
“They heard people undressing them and threatening them with knives before raping them,” said Captain Pelonomi Makau in a statement.
The woman in Mooifontein managed to grab the knife from her attacker and stabbed him several times before he fled.
Both incidents took place on Sunday night. Police are still searching for the rapists.
“The police are appealing to communities, especially young girls and women, not to walk unaccompanied during the night,” said Makau. – Sapa
