A man has been convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Mankweng Magistrate's Court for raping a 16-year-old girl, Limpopo police said on Thursday.

Gilbert Baloyi, 53, raped the girl in March 2010 in Ga-Mothiba, near Mankweng, said Constable Moses Molepo.

Baloyi was convicted and sentenced on Wednesday.

Molepo said the man knocked on the door of the family home where the girl was home alone and asked for water.
