Johannesburg - No law enforcement officer is permitted to stop vehicles and demand e-toll fees, Gauteng traffic police said on Wednesday.

This was according to the National Road Traffic Act, said spokesman Busaphi Nxumalo, who advised motorists to report such incidents to the police or SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) offices.

“Report the matter and furnish the officials with all the details of particular officer demanding such payments. All administration regarding e-tolls are done by Sanral,” he said.

“Motorists in Gauteng are therefore advised not to give money to traffic officers as that is illegal.”
