Durban - The police reservist accused of being a whoonga drug dealer appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after he handed himself over to police.

His attorney, Anand Nepaul, told police on Monday his client would hand himself over.

The reservist made a dash for freedom at the Sydenham police station, after he was arrested at the weekend. He asked for the handcuffs to be removed so he could go to the toilet. After using the toilet he dashed out the back door.

A case of escaping from custody was now also being investigated.
