Melandri Amelia Bukkies was murdered at her parents' Atlantis home, allegedly by her boyfriend.
Cape Town - A 28-year-old man was apprehended by Atlantis residents and handed over to the town’s police in connection with the death by stabbing of Melandri Bukkies, 20.
Bukkies was stabbed in her Atlantis home on Monday.
Police launched a manhunt for the suspect, who is believed to have been an ex-boyfriend of the victim against whom she had a court interdict.
The suspect remained at large through the night, but on Wednesday, residents of Robinvale and Witsand in Atlantis saw a man emerge from dense bushes nearby and recognised him as a wanted person, said police liaison officer Captain FC van Wyk.
He was allegedly still armed with a knife that, it is believed, was used in the stabbing. Community members chased the man through their neighbourhood and caught up with him. They then called the police.
The man, who was out on bail awaiting trial for an attempted murder case, will appear in the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court in connection with Bukkies’s death.
Bukkies leaves a four-year-old daughter she had with a former partner.
