Bloemfontein - A group of right wing extremists was planning to kill the president, the deputy president, Cabinet ministers and senior ANC leaders, the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday.
Four right wing leaders appeared in the court on charges of treason and terrorism-related charges on Tuesday.
The matter was moved from court 19 to court 21 so the court's normal activities would not be disrupted.
State prosecutor Shaun Abrahams alleged the four - Mark Trollip, Johan Prinsloo, Martin Keevy and Hein Boonzaaier - were part of a group who planned the “Battle of Mangaung”, to eliminate the country's leaders.
The State alleges they, along with others, had been planning since the beginning of the year to establish a new right wing party, the Boere Party, and commit acts of sabotage.
The State further submitted before magistrate Monde Matshaya that the group had planned to attack the ANC's Mangaung elective conference.
The State submitted it had evidence that the accused had conducted a reconnaissance mission, which included photographs of the dining area that senior party and government officials would use at the conference.
The case was postponed to January 8. The men would remain in custody. - Sapa
