Cape Town – Riot police rushed to Parliament on Thursday afternoon to block toyi-toying protestors approaching the building some four hours ahead of the President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation address.

The protestors, members of the Ses’khona People’s Rights Movement, were stopped at the corner of Plein and Barrack streets by a fleet of armoured vehicles, one with a water canon mounted on top.

It has been widely expected that the State of the Nation address, Zuma’s ninth, would see calls from the streets and the opposition benches for the president to step down.
