Durban - Police were on Monday on the hunt for four cash-in-transit robbers who held up a cash-in-transit van in Seaview on Monday morning.

One of the robbers shot his accomplice in the back as they made their getaway along Sarnia Road.

Police found the cash box a kilometre from the scene after following a blood trail to Coedmore Road.

The cash box was empty and covered in the suspect’s blood.

The cash box dye that stains the bank notes if it is irregularly opened had also been activated.

Police put out an alert to all hospitals to be on the lookout for the injured robber.

The drama occurred just after 8am at a petrol station in Sarnia Road after four armed men ambushed a cash van after it had picked up money.

The robbers fired shots, in the process injuring one of their own and ran away with a cash box.

Police forensics were combing the two crime scenes for clues.
