Makhado - Two nurses were wounded when an armed man opened fire inside the Vyeboom clinic in Makhado municipality on Friday, Limpopo police said.

Warrant Officer Elijah Malatjie said a man arrived at the clinic at 11.30am wearing a balaclava.

“He immediately took out a firearm and shot twice on the floor, forcing the two security guards at the entrance to flee.”

After the security guards ran away, the man took off his balaclava and went inside the clinic.

He went into one of the consultation rooms and shot one of the nurses twice in the stomach.

The man then went to another consultation room and shot a nurse in the arm, Malatjie said.

He then helped himself to a set of car-keys and four cellphones and fled in a nurse's VW Polo.

“This is very strange. We suspect that the man's intention was to rob the clinic,” said Malatjie.

“We are on a manhunt to find this suspect, so that he may face the full might of the law for what he did.”

A case of armed robbery and attempted murder had been opened.
