A man was shot and killed during a house robbery in George, Western Cape police said on Friday.
Captain Bernadine Steyn said the house owners, a 57-year-old man and his wife, 54, heard a noise at about 1am on Friday.
“The husband took his .357 magnum revolver and unlocked the bedroom door to investigate.”
He was attacked and shot in the arm by the robbers while his wife was also assaulted. Police found one of the robbers dead outside the house with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Steyn said it was still unclear how many robbers there were. Police were trying to establish who shot the man.
“A case of murder and house robbery will be investigated,” Steyn said.
She said the .357 magnum revolver was missing and it was unclear if other items were also taken from the house.
The couple were taken to hospital; both were in a serious but stable condition. - Sapa
