Port Elizabeth – Over the past week a total of three schools were robbed of cash and other valuable assets in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape police confirmed on Thursday.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said there was a burglary at Victoria Park Grey Primary School in Humewood on Wednesday night.

Laptops and a substantial amount of money was stolen. Naidu said that earlier this week suspects broke into a safe at Theodore Herzl Primary School where a large amount of cash was stolen.

On Wednesday, three suspects robbed the Harvest Christian School at gunpoint after pretending they had come to pay school fees.

"Cases of armed robbery and burglary are currently under investigation," said Naidu.

he also issued a warning to schools across Port Elizabeth not to keep large amounts of cash on school premises, particularly at this time of the year.

"Keep minimum amounts of cash at the school or do regular banking. Suspects seem to be bypassing alarms or are using angle grinders to get in. We also suggest to schools to consider employing security guards especially during the day," she said.
