Durban – A farmer was stabbed, robbed, raped and burnt with a hot iron when she returned home to her farm near Harrismith, police said on Monday.

Police spokesman Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the woman had attended a meeting and was attacked as she returned home to her farm Oatesdale on Sunday evening.

Two men demanded money and then took the 57-year old widow into the farmhouse and tied her hands up behind her back.

Mohiphiring said when she told them that all she had was the money in her purse they stabbed her in the leg, below the knee and in the shoulder.

He said: “They then took the iron and burnt her several times, very badly.”

She was then dragged to the bedroom where she was then allegedly raped by the two men, who then fled with her white Mahindra bakkie, the cash from her purse and a cellphone.

“We think it was just less than R200, maybe even less than R100,” said Mophiring.

He said the woman managed to untie herself and sought assistance from her employees who called the police and paramedics.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the woman was in a serious condition having sustained stab and burn wounds. She was taken to a Ladysmith hospital for treatment.

Mophiring urged community members to look out for a single cab white Mahindra bakkie with the registration DZG 208 FS.

“Maybe they have changed the number plates, but if the community members see someone who suddenly has a Mahindra bakkie who did not have one before, they should call the police, so we can investigate,” Mophiring said.

Police are investigating charges of robbery, rape and attempted murder.
