Muldersdrift - He was allegedly robbed of R4 000 at gunpoint, kidnapped, forced to withdraw R10 000 at various ATMs, and his bank card was later used to buy alcohol for about R9 000.

This is what a 34-year-old Muldersdrift man endured after he and his family arrived home to find robbers waiting for them on Monday night.

Captain Mosotho Phaahla, from the Krugersdorp police, said the man, his wife and three children had arrived home around 9pm on Monday from visiting friends.

While the man was in the garage, four armed men materialised and took him into the house with them. Phaahla said the men demanded money. Two of the men took the man upstairs while the remaining two stayed with his wife and children.

“He gave them R4 000, but when they saw that money, they demanded more, but he told them there was none. They took a plasma TV, three cellphones and a laptop.

They then loaded the items in the man’s car and told him to drive them,” Phaahla said.

In Diepsloot, the men and their captive got into another car. In the meantime, his wife had called the police and a tracking company, and his car was found abandoned in Diepsloot.

Phaahla said the men took the man to an ATM where they withdrew R2 000. They went to another ATM and withdrew another R2 000 and a further R1 000 at another one. After finding out that the man’s daily limit was R5 000, the men allegedly waited until after midnight, when they withdrew another R5 000.

“From there two of them stayed with him in the car, and the other two went to a liquor outlet and used his bank card to buy R9 000 of alcohol,” Phaahla said, adding that the man was then abandoned in Midrand. While walking in the dark, he came across security guards, who took him to the Midrand police station, said Phaahla.

No arrests had been made.

This is the latest in a string of robberies in the Muldersdrift area.

Late last month, Kirstie Adams’s dog Becky was shot in the nose after men opened the bedroom door and shot at Adams. They missed her but shot Becky.

Earlier last month, Jacques Botha was shot when his home was broken into.

He died before being admitted to hospital.
