The owner of a Brits butchery has been shot dead and two people have been wounded in a robbery at the shop, North West police said on Friday.

Three armed robbers entered and demanded money while Gerald Rudolf, 65, his son, 31, and a female employee were closing up at 8pm on Thursday, said Lieutenant-Colonel Lesego Metsi.

“The suspects allegedly shot and killed the owner, and his son was shot in both legs while the female employee was shot in the shoulder,” Metsi said.

Rudolf was declared dead on the scene. His son and the woman were taken to Brits Hospital.

Metsi said the robbers took a briefcase containing an undisclosed amount of cash, a 9mm pistol, bank cards and cheque books.

They also stole Rudolph's Toyota Corolla, which was found abandoned about 2km away. - Sapa
