Seven suspected robbers have been arrested in a sting operation by members of the Pietermaritzburg Cluster Tracking Team and Public Order Policing Unit.
Lieutenant Joey Jeevan confirmed that seven men were arrested on Monday morning in the France area in connection with a spate of robberies that took place on Saturday night between 5pm and 7pm.
“The men are alleged to have been part of a group that robbed vendors doing business in the area,” Jeevan said.
The group allegedly robbed tuck-shop owners of cash, airtime, cellular phone items and food worth about R85 000.
Some of the victims were assaulted and suffered minor injuries during the robberies.
The seven will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court this week. – Pietermaritzburg Bureau, Daily News
