Cape Town - A man has been arrested in his Joburg home for the death last month of Susan Rohde.

Her body was found in a hotel room on the Spier wine estate, where she and her husband were staying for a function.

It was reported that her body was found with the cord of a hair-straightening iron around her neck.

Her husban Jason Rohde, 47, is chief executive of Lew Geffen Sotheby's International in South Africa.

Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said the man was arrested in his home by police at around 6.50am today.

"This office confirms that a 47-year-old suspect was arrested earlier today for the murder of Susan Rohde on July 24, 2016, at a hotel near Lynedoch, Stellenbosch. He is due to appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of murder," said Van Wyk.

Initial police investigation suggested that Rohde's death was a suicide. But three weeks ago, following a post-mortem report stating that the deceased was strangled to death, police reclassified the case to a murder investigation.

Last week the Weekend Argus quoted attorney Tony Mostert, acting on behalf of the Rohde family, as saying that Rohde was grappling with what was happening. "Jason is obviously suffering from stress but is trying to be strong to support his three young daughters," he said.
