Johannesburg - Main Reef and Corlett roads in Roodepoort, on the West Rand, were still closed after noon on Friday as residents of the Princess informal settlement continued to protest, Gauteng police said.
Captain Donia Mothutsane said police had been deployed to the area and were monitoring the situation. No arrests had been made.
The demonstrations started on Tuesday, with protesters demanding better service delivery and houses.
Earlier, metro police spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said protesters were throwing stones at passing cars.
“It is not safe for motorists to drive through that area. They can use Ontdekkers Road as an alternative route,” he said.
Mothutsane said motorists should avoid Albertina Sisulu road and rather use South Rand road.
