Johannesburg - The South African Police Service says people should be aware of bogus advertisements purporting to be from the SAPS and recruiting for the 2017 police traineeship programme and other vacancies.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the bogus website had the SAPS logo which made it look authentic to the public. “As it is a norm, the SAPS wishes to state that advertisements for any post within its structures if and when they become available are placed in a range of newspapers in the country to reach as many potential and suitable candidates as possible.”

Mohlala said people should also bear in mind that they could view existing vacancies and obtain the official application forms from the official website of SAPS at www.saps.gov.za.

“Only information that is on this website can be regarded authentic,” said Mohlala.

Mohlala added that there was currently no post for police trainees and that these advertisements were part of a scam that was aimed at misleading the public and should be ignored. “We urge people to be vigilant and not be misled by any false advertising scams and to report these activities to the police.”
