The young woman who was doused in petrol and set alight in a suspected satanic ritual in Linmeyer died on Friday morning, Johannesburg police said.

“Kirsty Theologo passed away due to her injuries,” Warrant Officer Lorraine Van Emmerik said.

The 18-year-old was in a coma at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital with 75 percent burns to her body from her waist up. She died shortly after 4am on Friday.

Van Emmerik said one of the attempted murder charges against the four men who allegedly set Theologo and her friend alight would now be changed to murder.

The four appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

They are Lindon Wagner, 21, Robin Harwood, 18, Lester Moody, 18, and Jeremy King, 18.

Magistrate Lucas van der Schyff postponed the matter to November 1 for further investigation.

The young men would be held at the Booysens police station for DNA tests to be completed, public prosecutor Colleen Ryan said.

Theologo and her friend were among eight youngsters who reportedly went to a koppie behind the Linmeyer swimming pool in Julius Street last Friday night.

The two girls reportedly were tied up before they were set alight in what has been described as a Satanic ritual. - Sapa
