Cape Town – A 39-year-old cash-in-transit security guard was shot dead in what is suspected to have been a botched hijacking in Delft.

Andile Mabophe from Leiden, who is believed to have been working for SBV, was apparently parked outside a house about 7pm on Thursday when he was attacked by two armed men.

Witnesses said: “We think they were after his car which looked brand-new. The men walked across the road and suddenly we heard gunshots.”

They said Mabophe tried to flee but was shot a second time and fell.

Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said: “ Police attended to the complaint. Upon arrival they found a 39-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim died due to his injuries.”

The BMW has been recovered and a case of murder opened.
