Johannesburg - Four armed men robbed a cash-in-transit team of an undisclosed amount of money last week in Athlone, Cape Town, SBV said on Tuesday.

“On Tuesday, February 11, around 8.30am a cross-pavement robbery took place in Belgravia Estate, in Athlone. An SBV ATM team was attacked by four armed suspects while collecting cash from a bank branch,” SBV CEO Grant Dunnington said in a statement.

A cross-pavement robbery is when a cash-in-transit team gets robbed when loading or off-loading money from a cash vehicle.

“Unfortunately, two SBV employees were seriously wounded while defending the attack. The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash in a white BMW.”

Dunnington said SBV's risk and governance team was working closely with police to catch the suspects.

“I wish to commend our employees who bravely defended the attack and trust that they will recover well. SBV services will do everything that we can to ensure that those who have been involved are brought to justice.”

SBV offered a R100 000 reward to anyone with information that might lead to the arrests of the four men. - Sapa
