Durban - Bishopstowe detectives are frantically searching for a 15-year-old girl who has reportedly been kidnapped.
Amanda Noxolo Sibiya was last seen when she left her home in Table Mountain near Pietermaritzburg on Saturday morning.
According to police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, the teenager told her family she was going to visit relatives at nearby Maqongqo.
“When Amanda did not return home that night, her family became concerned and contacted the relatives she was going to visit,” Zwane said.
To their horror, the relatives reported that Amanda had not arrived at their home. The next day, her family received a chilling SMS.
It read that Amanda had been kidnapped and was being kept in “a dark place”.
The family also reported to police that they had received threatening messages informing them that they should say their goodbyes to Amanda.
The family was devastated by the kidnapping.
“She is just a child. We cannot sleep at night not knowing whether she is safe. We don’t know what these people want with her. This is a family’s worst nightmare,” a relative said.
“Please do not hurt her. She is a good girl. We just (want) her back home,” was the emotional plea.
Amanda is fair in complexion, 1.4m in height and of slender build. She was wearing a black skirt and a T-shirt and carrying a blue school bag at the time of her disappearance.
Police are appealing to anyone who can assist with any information regarding Amanda’s whereabouts to contact Detective Warrant Officer Deon du Plessis at 033 390 3521 or at 082 459 7639.
