One person was injured during an armed robbery at Makro in Montague Gardens on Friday.

Spokesman Warrant Officer November Filander said four men, one armed with a gun, entered the store around 1.30pm.

The armed robber used his firearm to hit a security guard over the head during the robbery.

The assailants took the contents of four cash registers

from the store. “They then jumped into an old Honda Ballade and drove away. No arrests have been made and police are investigating,” he said.

Filander said the amount of money stolen was not known.

Jonathan Curtis, operations manager of private ambulance South African Paramedic Services, said they had been dispatched to the store after they received information that someone had been shot in the face with a pistol.

On arrival, paramedics found Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services treating the injured security guard for an injury to his mouth – allegedly from the pistol’s butt. Two female cashiers, who were hysterical after witnessing the robbery, had to be treated.
