Former police commissioner Jackie Selebi was being sued for over R40 million, The New Age newspaper reported on Thursday.
According to the report, Selebi was being sued by private investigator Paul O'Sullivan.
O'Sullivan was suing both Selebi and the Airports Company SA (Acsa) according to documents filed in the High Court in Johannesburg.
He claims in court papers that in 2003, Selebi and former Acsa CEO Monhla Hlahla colluded to have him removed from his position as head of security at OR Tambo International Airport.
O'Sullivan had raised concerns about security flaws at the airport, with the services of the security company used at the time later terminated following O'Sullivan's intervention.
O'Sullivan was demanding R2m for pain and suffering, R4m for reputational damage and over R36m for calculated expected income he could not earn as a result of Selebi and Hlahla's actions.
The court action follows reports that Selebi owed the State R17.4m in legal fees.
He is on medical parole after being sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2010 for corruption.
Selebi's lawyer indicated his intention to defend the lawsuit. - Sapa
