Pretoria - A man who confessed to defrauding the labour department's Compensation Fund of R1.2 million appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Monday, the department said.

The matter was postponed to March 22 while the court awaits pre-sentencing reports from the probation officer, said spokesman Page Boikanyo.

Kenneth Martin Mahuluhulu's bail of R5 000 was extended.

On November 22, the 32-year-old pleaded guilty to defrauding the department's Compensation Fund, said Boikanyo.

Mahuluhulu was charged together with his alleged accomplice Khathutshelo Nethengwe, 35, a former employee of the department.

The fraud was committed between 2006 and 2009.

Nethengwe's case was transferred to the Pretoria Magistrate's Court, Boikanyo said.

The fund provides compensation for workers who fall ill or are injured while doing their jobs.
