Cape Town - A man believed to be a security guard is expected to appear in court on Monday in connection with the six bodies found near the Century City train station in Cape Town.
The man, whose name is known to the Daily Voice, was arrested at his Gugulethu home, and is expected to face several murder and rape charges.
His arrest follows the discovery of six bodies last year on a field along Acre Road near the Century City train station.
The bodies were reportedly found naked and lying face down with their hands tied behind their backs.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that the suspect gave himself away after he made use of one of his victim’s phones.
The insider said that the suspect lost his phone and used a victim’s cellphone to call his own number.
Investigators who had been keeping track of activity on all the victims’ cell numbers then discovered the last call made on one of the phones and traced it to an address in Gugulethu.
The suspect is believed to be a security guard who worked in the Century City area, but had absconded from work after the last body was dug up.
The latest victim’s body was discovered in the area while police were conducting an ongoing investigation in the vicinity.
One of the victims was identified as Nothemba Ndondo from Khayelitsha.
The 20-year-old was found dumped on December 19, four days after she left for work and did not return home.
The Khayelitsha resident reportedly worked as a cleaner at Ratanga Junction.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed the man’s arrest and stated he was being questioned on multiple murder and rape charges.
But Traut refused to be drawn into the finer details as the case was still under investigation.
“The finer aspects of the matter cannot be disclosed at this stage,” he said in a statement.
“In the light of this, we request our investigators be allowed to conduct their investigation without interference or speculation of any kind.”
