Pienaars River -Seven people were killed when a truck and a van collided on the R101 road between Pienaarsrivier and the Ga-Maubane off-ramp in Limpopo late on Saturday night, police said.

“It is alleged that a truck and van collided head-on where seven people which were in the van died instantly and only the driver survived with serious injuries, and two men who were in the truck survived with no injuries,” Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said on Sunday.

The truck was carrying a “heavy load of bags” and driving from south to north, while the van was travelling in the opposite direction.

A case of culpable homicide was opened by the Pienaarsrivier police and the dead were still being identified.

The cause of crash was still unknown and police investigations were continuing, Ngoepe said.
