Johannesburg - Seven members of a suspected drug syndicate were arrested on Thursday morning for dealing in drugs in Eldorado Park, outside Soweto, the Hawks said.

“We have been working on them for about eight or nine months after a community outcry about drugs such as CAT (methcathinone), tik (a methamphetamine) and cocaine,” Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

Ramaloko said the arrested men were between the ages of 21 and 70. They were found in their homes.

Police were still searching for another five members of the syndicate, which had distributed drugs around Soweto and Eldorado Park.

“We are convinced that we have a watertight case against them in court,” he said.

Ramaloko said the Hawks had closed down 12 drug laboratories in the past three months and had made several arrests.

“Amongst these laboratories there were laboratories which were supplying these guys,” he said.

The seven peple arrested would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday. - Sapa
