Johannesburg - Seven people were seriously injured during a car chase between police and attempted robbers in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

The robbers collided with another car and hit pedestrians during the chase, Warrant Officer Jerbes De Bruyn said.

The two men allegedly robbed a house in Westdene, Johannesburg, earlier on Wednesday afternoon. As they were fleeing the scene, police gave chase, during which the men's car hit six pedestrians and the driver of another car. All seven people were seriously injured and taken to nearby hospitals, De Bruyn said.

The driver of the getaway vehicle was arrested and the car was seized. Another man ran off and hijacked another car, which was later found in Westbury, Johannesburg. The man is still at large.
