Cape Town - The surfing community at a major Cape beach is outraged at a “blatant” male prostitution ring - some of whose members alleged to have sexually harassed children.

The sex-for-hire is allegedly taking place at The Strand between the Strand Surf Lifesaving Club and the miniature-golf course.

Four different sources have approached the Cape Argus expressing dismay about the situation.

The community is angered by the overt operating of the male prostitution ring and approaches allegedly made to children who frequent the beach.

One source, who asked that her identity be protected, wrote: “My 13-year-old son told me he had been approached by a man on the beach.”

Another source said there had been many cases of men masturbating in front of children on the beach in clear view of anyone passing by.

“There are dreadful things going down at Strand beachfront, in the toilets and bushes, and we want your help to warn people and expose the guys behind it,” a source said.

The lifesaving club is part of the local neighbourhood watch to help curb this growing trend and is now in permanent radio contact with the officers, as well as the SAPS.

The concerned beach users have now started issuing warnings to people in the area, urging any concerned members of the public to contact Strand police station on 021 854 9100. - Cape Argus
