Pretoria - A Pretoria East woman who pleaded guilty to having sex with dogs is to spend the next year under correctional supervision, which will include 192 hours of cleaning city institutions, and is to attend several rehabilitation programmes.
Jana Smit, 32, was sentenced by the Pretoria Regional Court on Friday. She had told the court earlier that she had sex with dogs to please her then-lover Morne Fourie, 38.
Magistrate Adriaan Bekker sentenced her to correctional supervision for the four counts of bestiality and to two years’ imprisonment suspended for five years for the procurement of a child to produce pornography - on condition she continued with therapy.
Her name would also be placed on the national sexual offenders register.
Earlier this month, Smit said in her explanation of plea that Fourie, an IT specialist from Garsfontein, gradually indoctrinated her during their two-year relationship through e-mails, photographs and sexual suggestions.
The court heard that he supported her financially and she would have done anything for him.
In an affidavit read by her lawyer, Carmelitha Smit-Brand, to the court, Smit said that one of Fourie’s requests had been that she film a seven-year-old child, known to her, while the child was bathing.
Smit, who had been in a special school and a victim of molestation, set up the recording equipment, but could not bring herself to make a video.
She indicated she had known her actions were wrong and that she would be punished if caught.
The State did not oppose correctional supervision.
