Johannesburg - Radio DJ Donald Sebolai denied stabbing his girlfriend Dolly Tshabalala, during his bail hearing in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

“I didn't stab her...she grabbed a knife and tried to stab me, I tried to block the knife and injured one of my fingers,” he told the court, in Soweto.

He said he went to fetch Tshabalala at an entertainment venue where she had been drinking. They left together and joined his sister Kelebogile for drinks at another place.

The three left later, intoxicated, and dropped off his sister at her home.

An argument between the two ensued when they reached his two-bedroom flat in Jabulani, Soweto.

“She grabbed the knife and tried to stab me. I tried to block it... We were in a standing position. She got stabbed while we were struggling for the knife,” he said.

Magistrate Herman Badenhorst asked Tshabalala where she was stabbed.

“I don't remember where on the body, I only saw blood on her pyjama pants. I was shocked by seeing the blood.”

Tshabalala said they were alone in the flat. He told the court he could afford R4 000 for bail.

The court heard Tshabalala earned R10 000 a month as a presenter at Jozi FM. His contract at the radio station is renewed annually.

He had three children with three different mothers. The children live with their mothers, he said.

“I assist my sisters financially where ever I can,” he said.

The application continues. - Sapa
