Parliament - A showdown is expected in Parliament when the National Prosecutions Authority faces MPs a day after they summonsed Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Chairman of the portfolio committee on justice and correctional services Mathole Motshekga confirmed that the scheduled meeting with the NPA will go ahead on Wednesday.

The NPA is set be grilled by MPs from the committee on their move to summons Gordhan despite his pleas to make legal representations.

President Jacob Zuma, who is currently in Kenya on a state visit, on Tuesday evening pledged his support for the finance minister.

But MPs are expected to give the NPA a tough time on the Gordhan matter.

Questions have been raised on the timing of the charges.

The NPA has denied that the charges are politically motivated.

However, Gordhan on Tuesday said the charges were politically motivated, and promised to stay on in his job to fight corruption in government.
